My Location:
Baltimore
My Hometown:
New York, NY
How I Spend My Day:
Writing, reading, talking -- about communications/PR, social media, food & wine, politics and fashion.
Why My Scene Rocks:
I've been a food reviewer for the Baltimore Sun and Baltimore Magazine and have worked with/for major food and wine companies, but I still think pizza is the perfect food.
Current Obsession:
Shrimp & grits, with or without chorizo, spaghetti w/white clam sauce, pinot gris, cabernet sauvignon and Earl Grey tea lattes.
Latest City Find:
Not so new, but I love Clementine. Baltimore needs more great BYO restaurants!
Still Looking For...
Real dim sum that's not an hour away in Wheaton.

Notes for Cameron:
Log in or sign up to post a noteVery funny, but very sad.
BTW: We found out on our last visit that they will not seat (3) people at a 4-top.
That was our last visit.
Wow, at first I believed this to be a harsh review, but quickly recalled a similar event happening to me @ a restaurant I will not name in this post. I remember the feeling of frustration and anger directed toward an institution I had frequented for years. I don't care what people in the industry say about 2-toppers and 4-toppers, if there is a table open, seat me, end of story. I totally agree with you and the fact that the staff cannot be bothered to make an effort to serve two of its customers, I just hope this is not a trend. Thanks for your updated review!

Ditto! The 3-cheese pie with pepperoni is delicious.

Hamilton Tavern

I'm downgrading Hamilton Tavern from 5 to 2 stars. Why? Because we went there recently on a weeknight, arriving about 6:30. There was a big table along the wall and the bar was full. All the other tables were full, except for two four tops. Since there were only two of us, they wouldn't seat us at either one -- "we can't," said the hostess. We were told there would be a half-hour wait. Like all the tables in this restaurant, the open ones were tiny and much better suited to two. Plus, I'm not aware of the rule that says you can't seat two people at a table for four. In fact, I've actually seen it happen!
No apology, no offer of a beer, nothing. Just "we can't." In a service business, you can do just about anything you want to do for your customers. This experience tells me that what they can't be is bothered. Perhaps the Hamilton Tavern is having a moment and can afford to lose two customers.
Guess what? A moment is usually just that long.

Matthew's Pizza
Neighborhood: Canton Category: PizzaI'm a native New Yorker and you know that we think we know everything there is to know about pizza. Obviously we don't, because Matthew's is the best pizza I've ever had. Anywhere.

Peter's Inn
Neighborhood: Fells Point Category: American (New)Just had yet another great meal at Peter's Inn, which is one of my favorite restaurants in Baltimore. We go early -- at 5:30 or so -- and wait for the kitchen to open at 6:30. There are so few tables and even bar seats there that it's the only way to avoid what can be a long line. Just had yet another great meal at Peter's Inn, which is one of my favorite restaurants in Baltimore. We go early -- at 5:30 or so -- and wait for the kitchen to open at 6:30. There are so few tables and even bar seats there that it's the only way to avoid what can be a long line. The menu changes frequently, but the food is always fresh and interesting, from long-time favorites like shrimp and grits to perfectly prepared lamb and even raw tuna. Recent desserts were the must-have chocolate pot de creme (this time with espresso sorbet) and not-too-sweet individual pecan pies. Service is casual but efficient. Peters is tiny and jammed full of eclectic artwork, stuffed fish and other strange but entertaining stuff. The best of Baltimore -- quirky and without pretension.
