The crowd was always interesting and international. They have a nice selection of eastern european and russian beers and vodka. Really, they had horseradish vodka. And the staff is always friendly and helpful. Bathrooms were clean. And if you hate the atmosphere, the Owl Bar is just upstairs.
You mileage may vary. I haven't been since they turn to a nightclub only.....
UPDATE March 2009 - I stopped by Red Square this past weekend and was told that the Russians are no longer there. Not sure what is going on in that space now, but it doesn't seem like it's Red Square...

Hamilton Tavern
Neighborhood: Hamilton Category: Bars, American (Traditional)I'm a little slow to get to new places... but I finally ventured over to this part of town recently. If my 1st visit was any indication... I think I'll be back. The place was PACKED on a Friday nite. But the bartender found us a table and not only did we get seated in the mad house, the bartender kept coming...

The place was PACKED on a Friday nite. But the bartender found us a table and not only did we get seated in the mad house, the bartender kept coming back. Mostly I've found if you get seated in this sort of chaos, you get forgotten, and never see a server again... but not at the Hamilton.
I'll agree with everyone else... the beers - a fine assortment. Ambiance - lovely, comfortable, warm and social, albeit loud. Menu - short and sweet.
We had the daily special chips and dip. It was some mushroom and feta mix (I couldn't hear the server really well), served with a french loaf slices. Outstanding. Simply outstanding. And at $5, probably one of the better purchases I made all Christmas season.
Then we had burgers. Again, simply outstanding. I'm a bit of a burger (beef) snob, and this was one of the best burgers I've had in the city. Funny thing? We sorta confused the server and my burger didn't come exactly how I like it, but once I bit into it and savored the flavor, it didn't matter. It still was one of the best burgers I've had in the city. Burger = $9. a bit on the high side for me, but the quality more than made up for it. And I loved, loved, loved the chips served with the burger. I ate everyone at the table's left overs. Ok... that's not really a sign of being a lady... but I think it's a sign of how good the chips were.
Yea! for the Hamilton Tavern!

For my beau's birthday this year, he wanted to go to a Happy Hour. I took him to the Baltimore Cupcake Co. Happy Hour. He was only momentarily disappointed.... once he got outside with a box of cupcakes, each freshly made, and each only $1, he perked up a bit. After he horked 2 of those bad boys down, he was much better. (Digression.... he was then treated the Gertrude's dinner & drinks... so the boy made out!)
But really? Fresh cupcakes for $1? How can that be wrong? There are tastey flavors, often rotating. The staff is always pleasant and thrilled to see you. And I LOVE the yummy frosting smashed all over my face as I shove these sweets in my face. Rock on for cupcakes!
