Joe Squared
Neighborhood: Charles North Category: PizzaSpaghetti and meatball pizza. That's all you need to know. So far I haven't found a reason to cheat on my precious little pizza with any other dishes. Totally worth a 20min drive to North Ave and what will probably be a decent wait. Their new high-tech coal-fired oven gives a nice char around the edges. And perhaps black lung, but that won't be for at least a few years. I digress. Here's a quick tip -- the pizzas are square so a 14 inch is pretty huge. Split a 12 inch and you'll save some cash and still walk away stuffed. Just don't go expecting Pasta Mista prices. Someone's gotta pay for all that coal that powers the oven of wondrous delights.

What a cool bar! Located across the street from Clementine, Hamilton Tavern is a casual neighborhood bar with a great beer and wine list. If you want a ton of choices, this isn't the place for you. They keep it short and sweet with interesting drafts and the always popular Brewer's Art brews -- Resurrection and Ozzy. When I was there, it seemed like most people were nursing a Resurrection.
And the food? Mostly sandwiches and appetizers with a couple more substantial dinner specials that rotate nightly. Sampled the house chips and apple cake, but need to go back to try a sandwich. I would classify it as upsacle pub food. Prices are very reasonable overall.
Perhaps the best part about Hamilton Tavern is its personality. Custom wood table tops lined with unusual beer bottle caps. Lacquered pages from old books on the bathroom walls. An antique-looking beer refrigerator on wheels. I heard that the owners hail from Brewer's Art. That would explain the beer and the personality. Very cool indeed.

Annabel Lee Tavern
Neighborhood: Canton Category: Southern,American (New)Annabel Lee is such a great neighborhood spot. Friendly staff, interesting food and reasonable prices. Try the lamb burgers! They also have duckfat fries although the lack of dipping sauce puts them second to Salt. On a recent visit I had a garlic-crusted filet stuffed with tomatoes, spinach and feta ($21). It was crazy tender and delicious. Their chef creates a nightly list of about a dozen unique specials so you're always sure to find something new. I highly recommend ordering from the specials menu. One of my Baltimore favorites for sure.
