This is a tough one....When Red star is 'on' is is exactly what you want out of "pub food". When it is off it is brutally bad. I've seen both sides at so often that inconsistency is their only consistent offering.

My meal last night summed this all up in single dinning experience...a terrific pizza coupled one of the worst apps i've had in awhile. Service was so-so.

I want to say great things about Red Star because of those all the great meals I've enjoyed in the past, problem is I've seen the dark side just as many times.

Absolutely the worst dining experience I have had in a very long time. To begin with the wait to have the host come to the host stand was nearly 5 minutes. The restaurant was not busy so we were seating immediately...once the host came to the stand. Our food took OVER 40 minutes to come to the table even though the restaurant was not busy! Then the food was only mediocre at best. Additionally we had empty drinks for over 10 minutes and eventually had to stand up and walk to the waitress in order to get our drinks refilled. We would have approached her earlier, but we just could find her.

The food is not consistent. One day your food will be good and then next day that exact same menu item is awful.

In order to get the check to leave the awful dining experience we had to leave the table and go to the bar to ask for the check. Ridiculous!

I will never step foot in the Red Star again!

Love the atmosphere, but when they are hopping like they were on Sunday, the service really suffers. Three out of the six of us ordered burgers and they were all very undercooked. We had to wait ten minutes before we could get our waitress to come back to check on us so we could send the burgers back to the grill. Maybe just an off night, but we were there a lot longer than we anticipated - all wait time.

Went to Red Star for Brunch on Sunday and had an AMAZING breakfast burrito with spicy chicken, scrambled eggs (substituted for egg whites), peppers and jack cheese. It was really delicious. My husband had crab eggs benedict and loved it. This was the first time I was ever there for brunch and would highly recommend it. My In-laws were with us and really enjoyed themselves. Bottomless Mimosa's and Bloody's for $8. Nothing beats a little day drinking with the In-Laws. We didn’t have a reservation but it looked like they accept them for Brunch, which I would recommend because it was very busy.

The food is great, and they have a bunch of new specials and deserts. I'd sit at the bar though.

Beautiful place, but I'll agree that the service sucks. Way too slow for me.

Awesome food and I love the decor, but I agree - terrible service. I went there with a few coworkers on our lunch break, and it took us 2 hours to get out of there, and there was only one other table in the place.

Consistantly bad service, save for a few shining employees who never stick around very long. The turnover in this place is so high that they can't seem to get anything going. Plus, the crowd is decidedly more Canton than Fell's...they should pick up and move to the other side of the harbor.

I used to think Red Star had a lot going for it. It's in Fells, yet not overly crowded thanks to being at the far end of the main drag. Beautiful dark wood interior, with high ceilings and big comfy booths. "Upscale" bar food. Even a decent live band!

BUT, last few times we've had terrible service. The wait-staff is still nice enough, but lots of waiting led to over an hour-long lunch. We had even stuck to quick-fix sandwiches, and most other tables were only ordering beers.

Most of the food is still good enough to make up for such things (the Thai Chicken wrap especially hit the spot this weekend), but not sure for how long. Note to self: stop thinking this is a good place for a quick bite!
