Mmmm, cheap skewers of grilled meats and such. Each stick comes with 3 pieces and costs $1 to around $2. You can get 10 skewers for $10. Recommend the spare rib, beef, chicken, asparagus wrapped in bacon. Avoid the shrimp. You MUST get the korean seafood pancake. Oh my it's amazing. Top it all off with some green tea...

The place has a very cool vibe. With a Tokyo subway map on the wall, you can imagine you have just found a hidden underground spot off a Tokyo side street. But then you walk outside and bam, say hello to gritty Baltimore. No Harajuku girls in sight :(

The yakitori was flavorful, reasonably-priced, and seemingly endless seeing as how slammed they've been since their write-ups. Yakitori combination platters were a smart way to get a broad sampling, but if you know what you want, the a la carte selections are the way to go for the gold? Service seems game for handling the overflow, though the ventilation system doesn't. Donburi was rich and satisfying.

After reading the City Paper and Sun reviews, I was really excited to check out this new yakitori place for myself. Specifically, the okonomiyaki, which, I've been told, is the staple of the Osaka bar scene. I wasn't disappointed. This place is crazy awesome! The first room is pretty small, with a tight bar wrapping around the grilling/serving areas (the bar was hand-made by the owner, I later found out). There are two longish tables, seating maybe 18 (packed tight) in the first room as well. Really cool boards (also hand-made) with the menu calligraphied (... calligraphated? calligraphed?) adorn one wall. I didn't check out the back room, but I could see dollar bills with writing on them plastered on the walls.
More importantly, the food was great. There seems to be a debate on Yelp what the best piece of yakitori is, and our group has to vote for the bacon-wrapped asparagus (sorry avocado). The donburi ordered was all woofed down. And the okonomiyaki was a delicious mound of seafood and barbeque-sauce covered pancake. One of the big selling points for this place is how cheap the food is. The 10 piece yakitori is about 10 bucks, the okonomiyaki was about 5 or 6.
Also, they have sake! Lots of sake! You can get it by the small bottle or large bottle with prices going up from $5 for the small house sake, which was ok. They have a few sochues, which I didn't try, but apparently sell really well. Beer-wise, the have the staple, most mass-brewed domestics, as well as the big three from Japan. Not really anything to get excited about. That would be one of the things that I would like to see fixed, mostly because I'm greedy and want to be able to drink great beer everywhere I go. Overall, they have enough of a booze selection to make most people happy, and saturate whatever food you gorge yourself on.
The only word of caution is that they aren't really prepared for their new-found popularity. Wait times for food are a bit long, mostly due to the modest staff size. They should be fixing that shortly though, so the experience can only get better. I would highly recommend that you go there, but just be patient and have a few (or more) drinks!
